Goh Jun Yong, 16, is planning to splurge about $40on his girlfriend this Valentine's Day. He is making a tiramisu for her with the help of his family and taking her out to dinner. He hasn't decided on the place yet. The Raffles Institution student feels it would be unfair on his parents if he spent too much on his girlfriend, Fiona Lee, 16, of Raffles Girls' School, since his is using allowance which comes from them.

His mother, housewife Lim Goik Bee, 41 is not complaining. She said that $40 is a reasonable amount to spend and had advised him not to buy an expensive gift or flowers since he has no earning power yet.

"Besides," she added with a laugh, "what good are roses since you can't eat them? Making tiramisu is so much better."
